SETI information regarding the various SETI projects supported by the Planetary Society
Declaration of Principles Concerning Activities Following the Detection of Extraterrestrial Intelligence, a document developed over a period of several years by the SETI Committee of the
International Academy of Astronautics to serve as a guide for what happens when we actually DO detect a message from an extraterrestrial civilization.
SETI Institute and ID4: Fact and Fiction a page by the SETI Institute that servesto point out a few differences between the actual and screen versions of the SETI Institute.
"The Drake Equation" How can we estimate the number of technological civilizations that might exist among the stars? An equation developed in the 1960's by Dr. Frank Drake conceived an approach to bound the terms involved in estimating the number of technological civilizations that may exist in our galaxy.
A Decision Process for Examining the Possibility of Sending Communications to Extraterrestrial Civilizations, a position paper by the International Academy of Astronautics which looks to begin serious international consultation on the question of future attempts to deliberately transmit electromagnetic signals from Earth to extraterrestrial
civilizations.
Cultural Aspects of the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence , report of a NASA Workshop by the SETI Institute which looks at the possible cultural effects that might accompany the detection of a signal from an extraterrestrial intelligence.
SETI Bibliography a listing of popular and technical books and papers on SETI and related fields compiled by the SETI Institute
A Search for Intelligent Searchers, article from WIRED dealing with the release of the software developed by SETI@home that allows people to SETI search data for evidence of possible intelligence.
4 January 1998:
Going Off Source:
Time away with SETI in West Virginia, by Keith Cowing, [Text Only] [Text and Graphics]
12 August 1997: "SETI Wants Your Screen Saver" - an interview with Dan Werthimer, the chief scientist for the SETI@home project, All Things Considered, National Public Radio
5 July 1997:Mars lander renamed to Honor Carl Sagan, NASA press release
22 June 1997: Contact - The Movie - premieres 11 July. The website is now online. Our Life in Extreme Environments website is listed as a resource for the movie!
20 June 1997 WELCOME Science Friday Listeners! Our Life in Extreme Environments website was one of Ira Flatow's suggested links for his broadcast segment "The Search for Alien Life - Is it possible that alien life could exist on other planets and moons in our solar system?"

EME, SETI, Radio Astronomy and Radio Amateurs an organization dedicated top amateur SETI research.
The Planetary Society a non-profit organization founded by Carl Sagan an others to encourage the exploration of our solar system and the search for extraterrestrial life. Its activities support SETI, astrobiology, exobiology, and Mars research.
SETI@home an organization formed to conduct a scientific experiment that harnesses the power of hundreds of thousands of Internet-connected computers SETI research by use of screen saver software that analyzes actual radio telescope observations.
SETI Institute a non-profit educational institution dedicated to scientific research in the general field of Life in the Universe. Their research is designed to answer the question: Are we alone in the Universe?
The SETI League an international grass-roots organization dedicated to privatizing the electromagnetic Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence. Together, a thousand members in over fifty countries are keeping alive the quest for our cosmic companions.

Life in the Universe supplementary science curricula by the SETI Institute for elementary and middle school students. The intent of the project is to take advantage of the intense interest that young students have in the existence of extraterrestrial life to motivate their studies of science and other subjects.
Education Activities this page describes the various educational and outreach acitvities underwy at the SETI Institute.

Arecibo Observatory a large radio telescope located in Puerto Rico and operated by Cornell University under cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation. Featured inthe film "Contact".
Project Argus an effort to deploy and coordinate roughly 5,000 small radio telescopes around the world, in an all-sky survey for microwave signals of possible intelligent extra-terrestrial origin
sponsored by The SETI League, Inc.
Big Ear Radio Observatory a Kraus-type radio telescope (no longer in existence) in Ohio which once covered an area larger than three football fields. The telescope was famous for discovering some of the most distant known objects in the universe, as well as for the "Wow!" Signal and the longest-running SETI.
BETA a SETI search performed at Harvard University that uses the 26-meter dish to feed data from 80 million channels into an array of programmable "feature recognizers."
Columbus Optical SETI (COSETI) Observatory optical SETI seeks to detect pulsed and continuous wave laser beacons signals in the visible and infrared spectrums. The COSETI Observatory has been designed to detect both attention-getting continuous wave and pulsed laser beacon signals.
Harvard SETI home page a description of the various SETI projects underway by Professor Paul Horowitz and his students.
High Resolution Microwave Survey (HMRS) - NASA a NASA-sponsored SETI search that began in 1992 and was cancelled by Congress in 1993. This work is currently being carried on by the SETI Institute's Project Phoenix.
SETI Research at Jodrell Bank information about the history of SETI and the observations being carried out at present at Jodrell Bank in England. The Lovell 76m radiotelescope is currently participating in the SETI efforts of Project Phoenix.
Optical SETI at the University of California, Berkeley Optical SETI is the search for visible or infrared signals from extraterrestrial civilizations.
Optical SETI at Harvard/Smithsonian a search for such intense laser pulses, transmitted deliberately in our direction by another civilization in order to initiate communication across interstellar distances.
Project META II: The Mega-Channel Extraterrestrial Assay, a SETI search that searches the
southern hemisphere skies from a location near Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Project Phoenix an effort by the SETI Institute to detect extraterrestrial civilizations by listening for radio signals that are either being deliberately beamed our way, or are inadvertently transmitted from another planet. Phoenix is the successor to the ambitious NASA SETI and HRMS programs that were cancelled by a budget-conscious Congress in 1993.
Project SERENDIP The SERENDIP Seti program is a search for radio signals from extraterrestrial civilizations; it is currently conducting a sky survey at the world's largest radio telescope.
SETI Australia Centre concerned with research, education and public outreach connected with and related to the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. It is located in the Faculty of Informatics, Science and Technology at the Campbelltown campus of the University of Western Sydney Macarthur.
Southern SERENDIP a SETI search being conducted in Australia with the capability to search 58 million channels at once.
Very Large Array (VLA) The VLA is one of the world's premier astronomical radio observatories and consists of 27 antennas arranged in a huge Y pattern up to 36km (22 miles) across located in Socorro, New Mexico. Featured in the film "Contact".
